Halloween Around The World

Halloween is one of the most historical and celebrated holidays around the world but what you might not know is that not all countries celebrate Halloween in the same way. Below is a list of some countries from around the world and how they celebrate this spooky holiday.

Ireland

halloween-ireland
Ireland is believed to be the actual birthplace of Halloween. Bonfires are lit in various fields and rural areas all over the country and children dress up in various different costumes and go “trick or treating” in their local areas. For those of you who don’t know what trick or treating is, it is when children knock on peoples doors and receive treats in exchange for dressing up in their costumes.
Children have also been known to really take the trick in trick or treating quite literally and it is not uncommon for children to play tricks on their neighbours such as “Knick-Knacking” which is when you knock on someone’s door and run away before the door is opened.

Japan

halloween-japan
In Japan the people celebrate what is known as “Obon Festival” which is a similar event to Halloween in that it is dedicated to the dead. The celebration involves the preparation of special food and red lanterns are hung everywhere. The lanterns have candles placed inside them and they are set afloat in rivers and the sea. During the “Obon Festival” a fire is lit every single night to show spirits where their families might be found. During “Obon” the dead are believed to go back to where they were born. The Festival takes place during July or August each year.

Hong Kong

Halloween-HongKong
In Hong Kong the people celebrate what is known as Yue Lan as the equivalent to Halloween. The name literally translates to “Festival of the hungry ghosts” and is believed to be a time when spirits are free to do as they please for 24 hours. During the festival some people burn pictures of fruit or money believing that by doing so these images would actually reach the spirits and bring the some much needed comfort.

Germany

halloween-germany
In Germany the celebrations are much the same as in Ireland and other countries around the world in that people dress up in different costumes and children go trick or treating in their local areas. One thing which is unique to Germans when it comes to celebrating Halloween is that on the actual night (31st of October) people hide all of the knives in their house, the reason for this is they are worried that the returning spirits might actually hurt themselves if they are left out. Very caring attitude from our German friends.

France

halloween-france
France celebrates Halloween in a way like no other we have mentioned, the reason for this is that a lot of people in France do not actually celebrate at all, Halloween is simply known as an American holiday and not as a time to honour the dead. However there have been a few occasions when the country has made a little bit of an effort as seen in the picture below, but if you are really a Halloween lover make sure you avoid France coming up to this time of year.

If you have experienced Halloween in another location we have not covered in this list please do not hesitate to drop us a comment and let us know, from all of us here at AirCrewser, Happy Halloween.

Westin Mina Seyahi | Dubai Marina Resort

There are so many great places to go for leisure in Dubai, and one of them is Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort. Summers in Dubai can be a bit of a challenge, as the temperature outside can reach up to 46 degree celsius. So a beach resort can help you cool down, while still being able to get some colour on your skin and chill out with your friends or family.

In this blog we will talk about the pros and cons about Westin Mina Resort.

Pros

  1. Clean & quiet resort (we would’ve preferred some music in the background though!)
  2. You can choose whichever seat you want and they offer free towels.
  3. Beach access – this would be most preferred during off summer season.
  4. Pool bar access – good selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks and the only place you can hear playing some music.
  5. Family friendly – there are 5 different pools of which one is for kids alone.

Cons

  1. For outside visitors to enter the hotel resort you actually have to go through Barasti entrance, not through the hotel’s entrance. My friends and I found this a bit frustrating as this wasn’t mentioned on the website and there was a bit of a walk involved in the sun.
  2. The free wifi didn’t work at all, but thankfully we had TravelWiFi and it worked amazingly!

  1. The entrance fees are quiet pricy, but if you are a visitor in Dubai (only in the summer season 1 Jun – 31st Aug) you can show your Emirates boarding pass and pay only AED 150 AED from 225 AED during weekdays or 350 AED during weekends. Or if you go Sunday or Wednesdays, ladies pay only 100 AED.
  2. A bottle of 500 ml of water is 48 AED, so you may as well buy some water from a local store before you go in because you will drink lots of water!!

Nonetheless the overall experience at the resort was very enjoyable, especially when you have good company.

If you’ve been to this resort or you are planning to go we would like to hear about your experience!

Summer Holidays in Dubai with Travel WiFi

There is nothing better than being able to stay connected to your own wifi when you are in holidays.

The Travel WiFi Worldwide Plans provide an extensive coverage in up to 100 countries and Dubai, UAE, was one of them.

Although I had wifi connection at my accommodation, the Travel Wifi was amazing once I left the house. I was able to use google maps, post on social media, check my emails and look for local information such us restaurants, places to visit and of course best beach resorts.

The wifi plan offers 500 MB/ day,  so I was conscious to make the most of it by using it only when i really needed it. The speed was amazing and so the coverage. The daily plan actually lasted me throughout the day, so for one person this is enough to do your own things.

If you think you need to use more data and you must share it with someone else, you can top - up more data, however this is not officially promoted on Travel WiFi website, so you will need to enquire about it. Travel WiFi is going to have this feature launched by the end of the year so keep an eye on their website.

Below are some of the places where I used Travel WiFi and worked amazingly:

A perfect combo: travel & fashion

When we think about leisure travelling, first thoughts would be exploring, experiencing new cultures, trying out local cuisines, partying or shopping. What not many of us are considering when travelling is fashion. But there are a few of us (more likely ladies) who see traveling as an opportunity to try out nice outfits. Fashion can be a way where we get to express our personality and feel as a completely new person, and traveling does just that.

The diva of Travel and Fashion

If you want some inspiration from someone who is amazingly great at it, then Ji Kim is your role model. Ji is a flight attendant for 18 years, she loves travelling and she is passionate about fashion. She would be someone who you would follow on Instagram every day. Every picture, a different outfit.  Her outfits are a combination of classy and stylish but yet easy to wear, wherever you decide to travel.

From looking at her Instagram pictures you will notice that she is dressing accordingly to each destination. Her inspiration is influenced by the local fashion. She loves shopping from hidden local shops or local designers. This is one of her secrets why she always looks so distinctively great.

Nonetheless you will also notice that she is a lady with high taste. Some of her outfit pieces are high end brands, especially for most of her shoes and handbags.

But what it’s really great is that Ji is always sharing her fashion sources. So if you follow her on Instagram or even her blog, The Classy Cloud, you will be able to find out from where she buys those stunning outfits. Her wardrobe is what every girl and lady is dreaming of.

Ji Kim is not only an extravagant flight attendant but she is also an entrepreneur. She has launched her own Classy Cloud Shoes Collection which looks devine. Her ballerina shoes are the perfect travel ‘must haves’. Your feet will be so grateful to you.

Flyingfoxy: “Be open to new destinations”

In this interview series, we have Katrin, also known as Flyingfoxy by her growing number of social media followers, who gladly is going to share a glimpse of her personal travel experience from around the world and also provide us some of her best recommendations.

---------------------------------------

Tell us a bit about yourself and how long are you working as a flight attendant? Why did you pick this job?

My name is Katrin, I am 30 years old and working as a flight attendant for Lufthansa since almost 3 years now. I was working as a product manager in the fashion industry before, but came to a point when I realized that this is not
the life I want to live. I needed a change to something that would give back to me more than just some money at the end of the month. I wanted to so something that has to to do with traveling even more and being more flexible and free, also when it comes to responsibilities and pressure. So I decided to apply at Lufthansa and became a flight attendant!
Working in the job now I can combine many things that are important to me as traveling all the time, meeting many new people, discovering food trend, my hobby photography and writing my travel blogs. I have much more time than before and can plan my life more flexible and spontaneous even though I don’t earn much money.

---------------------------------------

What are your favorite destinations and what you love the most about them?

That’s a tough question. ☺ There are so many amazing and beautiful places and countries around the world! But my favorite country is South Africa. This is a place where I can imagine moving some day and spending my life!
It’s the combination of everything: the weather, the countryside, the Architecture, the wine business, the quality of the food and the price level of everything you need! Every time I travel there I am always in a good mood and enjoy every day to the fullest! My dream is to run a guesthouse with a little café attached there, building a family and own some animals.
In my opinion everyone should travel to this breathtaking place at least once in their life! I have many travel reports about South Africa on my blog www.flyingfoxy.com and I think only the pictures speak for themselves!

---------------------------------------

What type of activities you like doing when travelling and why?

When I am travelling I am an explorer. I love to see and discover as many new things and places as possible. Mostly I do lots of research in advance, as anticipation for me is almost just as nice as the travelling itself! I use
social media as Pinterest, Instagram and the blogs of other travel bloggers to get inspirations about new destinations and what I can do there. I love original coffeeshops that serve good coffee and strolling through local markets. That’s what I definetly do every time I am travelling. I love to get a car and combine city trips with excursions in the surroundings. I always want to see as much as possible at every place I am going to. Also to write good and helpful content for the readers of my travel blog www.flyingfoxy.com

---------------------------------------

What is your favorite cuisine and what place serves your best dish?

Well, as I am definitely what you would call a “foodie” I love ALL kind of food! Food is for me one of the most important parts, when travelling! Trying new local dishes and products and exploring foreign cuisines. Countries that always serve the best food for me are Italy and Vietnam. Whatever you pick from the menu, it can’t get wrong! Foodpoprn at its
best!

---------------------------------------

What would be your best recommendation for those who love traveling?

Oh, there are so many…
Be open for new destinations! Even if you don’t know anyone who has been there already! Make your own experiences!

Follow some good travel bloggers and use all the options for inspirations and research we have nowadays! We live in a time where we can jump on an airplane and fly to any country within a only a few hours! We should use these possibilities the best we can and explore as many beautiful places on earth we can! Working as a flight attendant is very helpful, doing this! ☺

I love finding accommodations on Airbnb. You get in touch with locals much easier and only they know the real insider tips you need to get an unforgettable time! Try to find original accommodations beside the huge hotel chains and live inbetween the local people, wherever you go! Always had the best times using Airbnb!

Try to travel on your own at least once! For me it was such a new and inspiring experience of having a good time, even if I was afraid of being all on my own at a foreign place! But it turned out to be the best thing ever! It is such a different way of travelling and enjoying special moments with your own. Just let yourself flow without discussing with others! For me travelling on my own is the best way to breathe and let my thoughts become clear again!

Surviving a long-haul flight

What is a long haul flight

They say that a long haul flight is a flight longer than 6 hours. Apparently the longest one is the Dallas – Sydney flight operated by Qantas, which takes approx. 16 hours and 55 minutes.

Imagine being in a plane for almost 17 hours, with a bunch of other people. If you fly a A380 plane, chances are that there would be almost 400 -500 passengers with whom you will fly this long-distance journey.

How to make the most of your long haul flight

So you wonder how to survive a long-haul flight?

We came up with a list of recommendations from Denise, who is currently a flight attendant for Lufthansa. She has her own blog, Nala Behati, where she writes about her travels and passion for fashion. You can also find her on Instagram. So here they are:

Instagram: @nala_behati

Drinking plenty of water

The most frequent causing effect of jet lags is the lack of water in our body. Most of us will get dehydrated due to not drinking enough water. So make sure you will drink plenty of water before your flight, during your flight and after.

Thermal Spring Water

For ladies, a facial mist would be also highly beneficial when flying long distances. You can spray it on your face
and neck during your flight to keep your skin hydrated. Thermal Spring Water by Avene is one of the best facial mists for you to try. You can apply it before and after the makeup, so will keep your face looking fresh.

Eye Mask & Cream

While trying to get a good sleep during the flight, a good idea to help your eyes rest is to pack an eye mask with you. This way you will avoid the cabin light to disturb your sleep. Also by applying an eye cream around your eyes, you will be able to avoid dark circles and puffiness.

Earplugs

Well as we may all know flying can be quiet noisy and not so comfortable (if you fly economy). So a good trick to
reduce the noise and make the most of your sleeping is to use earplugs. You can buy your own ones, or you can ask the flight attendants to provide you a pair.

If you have any additional tips, we would love to read your comment and make sure we will include them in the next blog.

Only 90mins boat ride from Bali

Summertime is quickly approaching and so the excitement is building up. Probably this is the time of the year when most of us are day dreaming and already looking forward to a nice and exotic vacay.

We found a piece of paradise that may steal your heart straight away and make you not to leave it once you get there. It takes only 90 mins boat ride north east from Bali. @pilotmaria is taking us to this heavenly island, called Gili Trawangan. This is one of the three Gili islands, Trawangan being the biggest of all three and officially known as ‘the party’ island.

gili_island_pilot_maria

Instagram: @pilotmaria

Maria has been to Gili island twice so far and she fell in love with it since she first visited 7 years ago. A lot has changed since then. The island got busier and is predominantly visited by a younger crowed. Probably because is called ‘the party’ island?!  Also you won’t have to worry about the lights that used to be cut off around 10 pm every evening back then. Now you can explore the island day and night!

A typical day in Gili

A great way to start off your day is with a session of yoga with @katemiddeltonyoga by the beach.

Enjoy delicious breakfast at  @thebanyantreegili with a variety of options to choose from.

Explore the magnificent sights of the ocean by doing scuba diving with Kate. She is not only a yoga teacher but also a professional scuba diver so you will be in safe hands. If you are planning to do a scuba diving course, this is the place to do it.

If you want to watch the sunset with an amazing view then you should be on Malibu beach and try some delicious cocktails at Malibu Club.

Riding a bicycle or walking around the island is the only way to do it as there are no other forms of transport. It takes about 1 hour cycling to see all the island.

You can watch this great youtube video done by Maria while in Gili. Enjoy!
